PHOTO FLASHBACK: old-school wedding invitation set

We've been very very busy lately, as some of you know. We'll talk about what we've been up to soon, I promise! But first I wanted to get August's Photo Flashback out of the way.

A lot of people have been emailing us lately, surprised that we do custom graphic design, as well as photographic services. A lot of you said you'd like to see some more design work, so I went into the archives to find the most recent wedding stationery set I've done.

It just so happens that these invitations are based on car ads from the early 1900's, making it a double flashback! Enjoy.

Dana's Senior Portraits (part 1)

We shot Dana's first senior portrait session recently. Dana wanted more of an urban feel to her pictures, so we shot all around the downtown area. We started at High Falls:

Since Dana wanted an urban look for her portraits, I used color and art filters when appropriate to make the photo more edgy, but still acceptable for a senior portrait:

The lighting and the expression on Dana's face is so soft and sweet, I washed out the colors to emphasize that feel:

This photo was perfect for some high contrast color:

As we were leaving, we saw this very unusual loading dock door. It's natural wood and painted brick was a nice backdrop:

We then went to Midtown Plaza. I was very grateful that we were able to shoot in there before they closed it to the public, and the shiny wall made Dana's pretty green dress pop:

From there we went over to the Manhattan Square Park area. We started at the chess table on the north side:

Then went over to the Strong Museum of Play on the south side:

As we were shooting, thunder started rolling and the sky started to get pretty dark. As is common when we shoot outdoors, we knew we were about to get stormed upon. Melinda went to the car, and Dana and I decided if we were going to get soaked, we might as well hop in the fountain:

I bumped up the contrast and color saturation to better illustrate the falling rain:

Dana pulled back her now-curly hair for a more sporty look:

We had a great time, even in the rain. Dana plans to take full advantage of the two-day package she bought, and she is going to cut and dye her hair in between shoots. Stay tuned for our session with a completely different looking Dana later!

*UPDATE: we recently shot Dana's second senior portrait session!

Angela's Senior Portraits (part 1)

This weekend we shot Angela's first senior portrait session. We had a blast! Angela loves nature and the outdoors, so we were able to have a lot of fun with our locations.

Angela really wanted to shoot at a barn, so that is where we started:

There was a corn field near our barn, so we stopped there on our way to our next location:

I loved the vintage feel in this photo, so I worked on the colors in the photo to better reflect the mood I was going for:

Then it was off to the banks of a canal:

We left the canal and went to the Flower Conservatory:

This photo is even nicer with a sepia tone:

We then went to the Poet's Garden:

The arch complimented Angela's features very well, so I used a select color treatment to emphasize her pretty blue eyes:

We found a big tree in the garden, and Angela climbed right up it! It made for some great shots:

This shot was perfect for showing off Angela's very unique, very cool class ring:

We finished off the day at the Sunken Gardens:

It was a very successful and productive day, and for once the weather was on our side! We can't wait to shoot with Angela again at the end of August!

Custom Onesie Designs

I recently attended a baby shower for old friends of mine. They are both artists, and aren't artists the hardest people in the world to shop for? You really have to step up your gift-giving game!

For their baby shower gift I made some custom onesie designs, and used iron-on transfer paper to apply them to onesies. Fortunately for me, they were a huge hit. People liked them so much, in fact, that I got a few requests at the shower to make them for other people.

I've decided to share my designs here, just in case you have a pregnant artist in your life too!
