Go Lady Falcons!

As some of you know, I teach photography at The Charles Finney School. Since the kids know that I am a professional photographer, they often ask me to take portraits for them. Here are some of the team portraits I have taken for the girls sports teams:

Tobias Collage

Rodney and Jami are a lovely couple that we've had the pleasure of working with many times before. We did a portrait shoot with their son, Tobias, and for Christmas, Jami wanted to do something special with those photos.

Jami loved the idea of those collages that focus on the tiny fingers and toes of a baby, but she wanted something more creative and personal. She also wanted something with more artistic edge.

I showed Jami a digital collage design that I came up with, using a visually interesting scrapbooking technique that I use when I want to use lots of different type of pictures. We sat down and picked out a handful of her and Rodney's favorite photos, and I turned them into a unique and fun collage:

I love the soft, warm colors and the coziness of the design. This is a particularly nice design for multiple photos, because it hides the edges of each separate photo. Rodney and Jami could not have been more pleased!

Paul and Kelly's Engagement Portraits

When we met with Paul and Kelly, they told us that they wanted the works - engagement pictures, coverage of Kelly's bridal shower, as well as the whole wedding day, complete with wedding party portraits at a separate location. We were more than happy to accommodate them, and of course our journey started with an engagement portrait session.

Kelly's grandparents have beautiful property right on the lake front of Lake Ontario. Essentially the beach is their backyard! Paul and Kelly wanted to shoot there, and we timed the session so we could get some shots in the sunshine, as well as the sunset behind them. Here are some of my favorites from our shoot:

Stay tuned - we'll have Kelly's bridal shower, as well as Paul and Kelly's wedding, up later!

Dontrell's Senior Portraits (part 1)

At the beginning of the school year, we went on an all-day excursion to shoot Dontrell's senior portraits. Dontrell was very smart in picking her locations, so we were able to get a lot of different backgrounds in the same place.

Dontrell is very athletic - she plays soccer, basketball, and softball - and she wanted portraits in all three uniforms. She chose Cobbs Hill to shoot, since they have fields for all three sports in the same general area.

We started with soccer:

This picture was perfect for a select color treatment:

We then moved on to baseball:

I added a very gritty, very harsh black and white effect, to better capture the mood. It's one of my favorite pictures of Dontrell!

We rounded out the sports portraits with basketball:

Before the left Cobbs Hill, we ran over to the playground for a bit:

We then moved on to Webster State Park:

As is common when we shoot outdoors, it started to rain. And as is common when it starts to rain, we decided if we were going to get wet, we might as well have fun with it!

I used a color treatment to emphasize the rain on Dontrell's skin:

We hopped into the lake for this fantastic shot (my other favorite!):

We had a great time, and even used the rain to our advantage!

Dave and Nikki's Wedding

In August, we had the pleasure of shooting Dave and Nikki's wedding. Dave and Nikki are both teachers in New York City, but made the decision to wed in Syracuse, where their families reside and where their dollar would go farther.

We started, as we usually do with weddings, at the rehearsal. Dave and Nikki chose a beautiful cathedral right in the heart of Syracuse:

After the rehearsal, it was off to the dinner:

The next morning we were back in Syracuse bright and early to be with Nikki and her girls as they got ready:

Of course, for the boys, getting ready requires a lot less work:

And a lot more waiting!

Dave and Nikki had A LOT of friends and family in their wedding party to support them:

And the ceremony was traditional and lovely.

The reception had charming decorations, and a fabulous candy bar!

Everyone had a great time and danced the night away, especially Dave and Nikki!

We even ran off for a little bit to get some more portraits:

Dave and Nikki had a great carrot cake that went perfectly with their country theme:

But when they cut it, the videographer missed it. Undeterred, Dave and Nikki reenacted it for him:

When Dave and Nikki got their photos, Nikki emailed us the very next day to tell us how much she loved them! She said:

"Girls - The pictures are SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO BEAUTIFUL - THANK YOU! We love them so much!

So, I was waiting to write my official review on all these wedding sites, I can't wait to tell future brides about your AMAZING services, before, DURING and after our wedding...

I can't explain the peace of mind I have right now, knowing that the day was captured exactly as we discussed."
