Hannah's Senior Portraits

This past weekend we shot our first senior portrait session of the season, with Hannah. When we met with Hannah and her mother, they told us they wanted urban, artsy, edgy photos. We chose some great locations scattered throughout the city, and here are some of our favorites:

We started at High Falls:

This photo looked great with an artistic treatment:

As we were leaving, we noticed a really great alley with red brick on one side and an overgrowth of trees on the other. Since all of our senior portrait sessions come with unlimited outfit changes, Hannah changed into a bright blue shirt. I love how all the colors just pop off each other:

We added a vintage color affect to this photo:

We then headed to the other side of the High Falls:

We then moved on to Manhattan Square Park:

We finished off the day at an access ramp to the highway. These are by far my favorite shots!

We arranged our lights so we could get some dramatic shadows on the wall:

This photo was PERFECT for our artistic treatment:

We had a great time, got some great shots, and it didn't even rain! It was a wonderful start to a great new senior portrait season!

Isabel Collage

Earlier this year I shared about a collage design I made created using my own special digital scrapbooking technique and multiple photos.

After I posted this, we were contacted by Stephanie, who loved the design and wanted the same thing for her daughter, Isabel. So on a bright and sunny afternoon, we went to Stephanie's house to shoot some pictures of Isabel. The lure of a perfect day for play was too tempting for Isabel, so we only got to shoot for about 10 minutes!

Nevertheless, we got some good shots, and put them into a collage for Stephanie. We matched the grid to the color of her living room wall, where she was to hang it.

She (and I!) could not be happier with the result:

The bright sunny colors match Isabel's beautiful smile. And it looks great on their living room wall!

Matthias' Senior Portraits (aka Real Men Wear Pink!)

This past fall we shot Mattias' senior portraits. He was a senior model for us the year before (he's one of our barn kids) and we were looking forward to working with him again.

When we asked Mattias where he wanted to go, he said that he remembered taking portraits at Mt. Hope Cemetery when his older sister had gotten married, but he wanted his portraits to look nothing like his sisters. Lucky for him, we specialize in different!

The other thing that was really important to Mattias was our post-production. Because he had already done portraits with us, he had seen all the cool ways we can tweak a photo after the fact. He wanted an overload of special effects, and we were happy to oblige.

Here are some of our favorites from the shoot:

Our senior portrait sessions come with unlimited outfit changes throughout the entire shoot. As we moved on to another part of the cemetery, Matthias changed into this great pink shirt. It was very flattering for Matthias' skin tone, and who doesn't love a guy in pink! This is ours - and Matthias' - favorite with the pink shirt:

In fact, Matthias liked this shot so much he chose it as his yearbook photo. A few days after he told us what photo to prepare for the yearbook, however, he asked if we could make a few changes. Like, change the color of his shirt (and bump up the saturation in his eyes. And darken his hair). Lucky for him, that sort of work is included at no extra charge in all of our senior portrait packages (although, what is it with these guys and their shirts?) so we made all those changes for him:

As it often happens when we shoot outside, it started to rain, so we fled for the car and packed up. But once we left the cemetery, it stopped! We happened to be right in front of Genesee Valley Park, so we popped in for just a few more shots. We found this fantastic tree:

Despite the three and a half seconds of rain, we had a really fun time, and more importantly, Matthias got exactly the photo we wanted for his yearbook. Mission accomplished!

Cory and Kelly's Engagement Portraits

Cory and Kelly are a really fun couple whose wedding we are shooting very soon. We recently met up to shoot their engagement portrait session. Even though Cory had just had his wisdom teeth removed the day before (yikes!) and couldn't smile as much as he wanted, he soldiered through the pain and he and Kelly met us at Highland Park for their shoot. Here are some of my favorites from the day:

We started off at the Poet's Garden:

We then headed over to the Sunken Gardens:

We had a lot of fun (even Cory!) and got some great pictures of them in between laughing our heads off. Stay tuned, as later we will be blogging about Cory and Kelly's wedding as well as their Trash the Dress session!
